Young person confused about sexuality

Sex is everywhere

Living in the digital age, young people are bombarded by information about sex. But that doesn’t mean you get to know what you want and need or it helps make you happy and confident about sex.

Influences on your sexuality

Growing up you’ll experience all sorts of influences on how you feel about sex and your sexuality:

  • self-image (how you feel about your body, your confidence, how you look and your relationship with food)
  • social relationships (family and friends)
  • sensuality (food, massage, music, smells and touch)
  • emotions
  • religion, faith or spirituality
  • education (what you learn at school or home)
  • politics

All these shape whether you choose to have sex, you’re happy to wait or choose to express your sexuality in other ways.

It’s important to make sure that you have the information you need to make your own decision about your sexuality how you choose to express yourself.
